Well, I have to admit that if a year ago someone had told me this Rig would be the ticket for Tuna, I’d be …shall we say …skeptical, to be polite. But, strange as it is, you can’t argue results. I’ve seen it rigged a dozen different ways, all of them trying to work around the fact that the regular sinkers aren’t through wired. These are …with beefy 12 gauge Stainless wire.
Our first priority is to make Tackle that is reliable and productive.
We start with the 16oz. (500 g ) Chromed Through-wired sinker. The three hooks are VMCâ„¢ 7264’s, 13/0 or 11/0 size. These hooks are sticky sharp, 4X strong and have effective barbs. The large gape of these hooks is well suited to the thickness of the sinker and enables a greater purchase at hookset and less pulled hooks. Optionally, you can order it with a Mustad 5/0, 5X strong treble. This is Mustads latest “Jaw Loc” model. All hooks are attached with solid rings to swivels to minimize any torsional torque on the hook and rings. This reduces the tendency for the hook to open a hole and drop the hookset. The four blackened Stainless Ball Bearing swivels are rated at 330 lbs. These are also Dual Rotation where the ends rotate independently.
In addition to the hooks the entire rig rides on a swivel that includes a ring and grommet connection. This type of connection is old-school commercial stuff and is known for its strength and reduced visibility. To reduce the chance of a heartbreaking “chew-off” we offer the rig with 4 ft. of 300# leader, either Jinkaiâ„¢ fluorocarbon or Momoiâ„¢ X-Hard, your choice. Both of these lines are known for their abrasion resistance. We use Jinkaiâ„¢ crimps exclusively. The rig terminates with another ring and grommet allowing for easy connection.
